flightpath is a cross-cultural collaboration between poet, painter & filmmaker Steven McCabe (Toronto, Canada) and painter Shirin Pilehvari (Tehran, Iran). The film juxtaposes McCabe's poetry with Pilehvari's artwork, enveloped within the imagery of the Canadian Niagara Escarpment, creating a synonymous geography of word and image.

flightpath is a statement about peace and art bridging disparate realities. Artists separated by vast geographical distances, communicating in the digital era via social media, bear witness to the process of creativity and its ability to transcend cultural differences and create a united vision.

Poetry and painting, juxtaposed with nature, cinematically imagine a metaphorical journey into the creative movements of the subconscious in flight through critical & existential thought process. flightpath features a hypnotic Turkish - flavoured musical composition by classical guitarist William Beauvais and percussionist Barry Prophet.

flightpath embraces the poetics - influenced imagery of contemporary Persian visual art. The crows symbolically traversing Pilehvari's paintings mirror the shadows of mythology and metaphor within McCabe's poem.

* Note: The Persian narration and script repeats the poetry spoken by the female voice in English, which appears also as the portions of text superimposed above water.
