I love working with fine-line detail whether 'free verse' drawing or illustrating a meaningful text or for my own amusement. For years I have carried a sketchbook with me and a fine-tipped drawing pen for use on subways, streetcars, buses, park benches, etc.... I don't usually draw what is 'in front of me' but rather incorporate shapes and outlines, textures and sensations (and images from art history) which I have observed, in later drawings. It's amazing how much experimentation one can achieve with a pen and how many effects one can accomplish. And it's fascinating and instructive to study the artists who have created with line and ink at various times in history. Aubrey Beardsley was my first big influence. Very intricate, and decadent, with brilliant techniques.
