VISUAL ART - The Wyatt Earp Project : Dallas;1963

The Wyatt Earp Project : Dallas;1963

in 1995 my book Wyatt Earp in Dallas: 1963 was published by Maureen Whyte at Seraphim Editions (edited by Tanya Nanavati). This speculative, surrealist long poem played with time and switched around events, people and locale while creating a mythical resonance.

In 2003 at Pteros Gallery (sadly no longer in existence but once a wonderful visionary gallery representing poet-painters) I continued the theme with paintings, assemblage, mixed media sculpture, collaborative artwork (thank you Pat Broms and Suzanne Morrison) and video. Peter Goddard of the Toronto Star covered the exhibition in his gallery review feature 'Art By Numbers.'  Pierre L'Abbe was kind enough to write the insightful exhibition catalogue.

The video component of the exhibition featuring Nicole Pillar as Jacqueline Kennedy in the wild-west (filmed at Docville in Newcastle, Ontario by Eric Gerard, cinematographer) got the ball rolling for a video-poem project which eventually became the short film 'My Story is Not My Own.'

On November 22, 2003 I was accompanied and sometimes led by (!) the brilliant guitarist William Beauvais at Pteros Gallery reading long sections from the book Wyatt Earp in Dallas: 1963 commemorating the 40th anniversary of the death of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
